Case Study 1
The 60-year-old woman had Parkinson’s disease for three years at the time of her evaluation. Her right-side tremor which first appeared started to worsen after one year and became less responsive to treatment. The patient developed mild tremors on her left side which she experienced together with stiffness and slower movements. The patient used medicines to manage some of her symptoms yet the tremor had become her biggest struggle which impacted all aspects of her daily activities.
Dr. Naren Nayak established a direct treatment plan which aimed to stop her disabling tremor while maintaining her current medication regimen which still showed effectiveness. Dr. Nayak evaluated the patient and decided to perform thalamotomy which is a specialized procedure for treating tremors in specific Parkinson’s disease patients.
The procedure achieved its goal because it successfully controlled her tremor. The patient achieved improved daily life comfort and functionality through the combination of surgical treatment for tremor and medicinal treatment for her remaining symptoms. This case shows how customized treatment can deliver significant benefits for patients who have Parkinson’s disease with tremors as their main symptom.
